Career Path and other details of the posts under SSC CGL EXAM

Every year millions of aspirants apply for SSC CGL Exam but they are not having enough knowledge and awareness about the posts they are applying for. SSC CGL offers various departments depending upon the merit or rank they get in the SSC CGL Exam. It becomes easy to opt for the adequate job or post once you know the details of the relevant posts.

  1. Assistant Audit Officer
Once a candidate is appointed as Assistant audit officer he will be promoted to Senior Audit officer after the successful completion of 6 to 10 years of continuous job. Then after 2 to 4 years one is promoted as Deputy Auditor General. This is the only gazetted post offered through SSC CGL Exam.
  1. Inspector (Examiner) (CBEC)
  • When you are appointed as Inspector after a span of regular job of 3 years you are promoted as Appraiser. After every three years promotions are done in the order as given below:
  • Assistant Commissioner. 
  •  Deputy Commissioner and
  • Commissioner
There are very few vacancies and the postings are given in Coastal areas.
  1. Income Tax Inspector (CBDT)
This post gets first promotion after 8 years of the service and also on qualifying departmental exam. The promotion path goes like this:
  • Income Tax Officer
  • Assistant Commissioner
  • Deputy Commissioner
  • Commissioner
This job gets a posting in all India regions. It stands a good chance to be posted in home town sometime.
  1. Assistant (MEA)
Candidate gets first promotion after  15-17 years but without qualifying any departmental exams.
In case anybody intends to take any departmental exams then after 8 years he or she can appear in the same for promotions.
   
    5. Inspector (Central Excise) (CBEC)

Candidate gets the first promotion after 15 to 17 years of posting without clearing departmental exam and 8 years with the departmental exam. Postings are given in Delhi. There are chances of getting a posting in foreign country also after few years of the regular working.
